«Vínculos de Amor» (“Remember Me”) is a comprehensive program designed to support mothers and families who are experiencing pain resulting from the loss of their babies during pregnancy or at birth.
The program consists of four different elements, and the families are able to decide their
own personal level of involvement:
1. Recognition of Loss
We prepare and deliver a “Certificate of Loss” with information that is provided by mothers and families. All of the information is optional, such that families are always in control of what they want at all times. Mothers are encouraged to give their babies a name. This certificate acts as a witness to the loss, and validates the pain that the mother, father, and whole family are experiencing. Each child is registered by hand in our special “Remembrance Book” book within a special entry and a uniquely assigned identification number.
2. Special Events
At least twice a year, we hold special events designed to recall and honor the babies that have been lost to families and to the world. Our events,
in our case held locally on the grounds of El Campanario cemetery in Guatemala, are open to everyone. Pictures and videos are shared with all who participates in the program, and we are working on being able to permit family members that live far away participate virtually.
3. Perpetual Memorialization
We have constructed a beautiful Butterfly Garden to serve as a special place where children can be remembered and memorialized. We engrave small granite plaques with the name or nickname of each child, which are placed in the walls surrounding the garden.
Pictures provided can be sent to those families that
live far away or who are unable to visit in-person.
4. Emotional Support
To help families in grief, we opened the first Thanatology center in the region, and provide personalized sessions through our resident Thanatologists.
